You have spend weeks trying to make your nails longer so that you apply those cutex and shiners on your nails.Then one week you do a huge laundry at home. After the long working day you notice your nails have became brittle, and worse they keep on cutting off. If you have experienced such scenario once or many times, then it means that you have deficiency on body and you need an immediate change of diet.


Nails are actually made up of protein layers known as keratin. Any change in colour on your fingernail may indicate a problem on your  nail health.

Foods that contain vitamin A include apricot, apples, spinach, yams citrus fruits etc. These should be added to your daily consumption.

#2 Zinc. Zinc act as a biochemical that involves in the reaction of  cell growth. The growth includes the skin, hair, and fingernails. Foods which are rich in zinc include cashew nuts, soy beansm flax seeds, spinach, pumpkin seeds etc

#3 Omega-3 fatty acids. These fats keeps keratinocytes healthy so that your nails can be log and strong. Foods with omega-3 fatty acids include eggs, tuna fish, chia seeds, walnuts, flax seeds etc.

#4 Folic acid. Foods such as beetroot, eggs, citrus fruits, avocado, spinach have high content of folic acids/ vitamin B9. They promote in the growth of longer nails because they contribute in the faster growth of body cells.

#5 Biotin. Biotin helps in metabolising fats and proteins. Biotin is also referred as vitamin H. It is absorbed in the core of the nail hence encourages the rapid growth of nails. Vitamin H is naturally found in foods such as lettuce, cucumber, oats, walnuts, milk, raspberries etc.

#6 Protein. Protein is a crucial nutrient because the nails are actually made from protein. Its deficiency can result to chipped and brittle nails. One needs to eat food rich in protein for proper growth of nails. Foods such as soy, fish, meat, eggs and dairy products are rich in protein.
